not much really, does depend on which mini you are talking about though... it is a case of a few bolts and some clips

The armrest I got had two metal uprights which fit under the seat mount. So it took about 20 minutes as you take the one bolt out and loosen the other rear bolt from each side and then fit.

I think the other armrest available is more integrated into the centre console and takes longer to fit.
