Hi guys, the girlfriends Mini cut out on the M25 the other night (luckily she was following me and I spotted her headlights go out). She said it lost power and only noticed that the LCD on the rev counter pod basically went solid (blocks across the screen). Pulled over, switched off, and it fired up again perfectly.

I checked the battery terminals (seemed the obvious one) and we swapped cars there and then as I didn't really want her driving an iffy car in the wet and the dark on her own, but since then it's totally fine for the 300 odd miles I've covered in wet, dry, dark and light conditions. She's also driven it to work and back a couple of times with no issues, so it's not her driving.

Does anyone know of any common issues that might cause this, or am I going to have to get ripped off by a BMW dealer to have the ECU interrogated?

Depending on what year and which mini you are talking about it could be the body control unit.

If it is the BCU then the ECU will not record a fault

Tell us what car you have and we may be able to shed some light on the problem
