Mini Cooper s Strange Noises

Hi Wanting some help with strange noises from my recently purchased coopers the first is an occasional whooshing of water from behind the dash and the second is that if i rev the car whilst stationary the exhaust sems to pop and fart any help would be appreciated thanks

I don't want to patronise you, but depending on the year, it sounds like the turbo or the supercharger.

The 'wooshing of water behind that dash' is fairly common on lots of different cars from all the ones I drive/sell at work (I sell all makes and models). It's the air conditioning.

The pops and farts is unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust.

Steering whines are the power steering pump, it's amazing how a common fault with a car can become part of it's character.

PAS whine is a characteristic of the Mini.

With BMW Minis, these noises are COMPLETELY normal.


Also, very whiney steering, as its an electric system, not hydralic,.

HAving owned severalmMini Cooper S's, I can assure you these noises are normal.

As MK4 Slowride said, the poping is unburnt fuel being released into the manifold, and combusting in the exhaust. Not anything to worry about, in fact, drop your window whilst going through as tunnel, come off the gas quickly, and enjoy the 'parp parp farting' your car does.

The sloshing noise happens because a valve (or similar) opens inthe engine allowing the fluids to circulate into the heating system when the car gets up to temperature. Odd to hear but again normal.

Not quite true, mines a none AC car and i still have the same noises !!

Agreed, all normal and the exhaust note is good fun for a birds car.

Mine did that i figured it was the aircon , thanks for confirming it for me

The heater matrix is still located behind the dash.
