Hi,
my chums mini conv's roof is stuck one side - if you go to open it, one side starts going back but the other stays put. any ideas - is it worth trying to force it free or has a motor or something gone?
thanks
Broken cable, where it attaches to the release bracket its held in via crimping, eventually it breaks so one side can't release from the A pillar - this is a serious but common issue. Basically there are a few work arounds possible but the real solution is a complete new frame.my chums mini conv's roof is stuck one side - if you go to open it, one side starts going back but the other stays put. any ideas - is it worth trying to force it free or has a motor or something gone?

If you take it to a BMW/Mini dealer, as long as your car has a good history they should do it with the parts for free under goodwill. Labour will still be around £700 though.
Mine went in Nov 2009 - I successfully argued my case and BMW supplied a new frame FOC (Thank God as its £2500) all I had to pay was the fitting, but its still a 9hr job (BMW fixed duration, it actually took my dealer, Carrs of Bury St Edmunds, 15Hrs and they couldn't wait to see that back of it)
