LSD & 'the right spec'
Discussion
Due to quitting my job I had to sell my beloved R56 Cooper S. In that time I've been happy with my cheap load-lugging Volvo but thoughts on a nice day (well, any day really - it was usable in all weather) turns to my now-departed Mini. I've looked at 'the competition' and nothing else touches it, IMO. Quicker than pretty much any hot hatch, it's certainly the easiest to plough down a b-road due to size, lack of weight makes it feel really pointy and for me the kicker was that the fuel economy and relatively cheap servicing were fantastic. Never once had to worry about reliability, felt so solid.
Anyway, onto the question. For some time now you have been able to spec a limited slip diff when purchasing a car. This a fairly rare option but some do come up from time to time. For those with LSDs, how do you find it? Does it help bring the car round in fast, tight turns? I always found mine had a very controllable understeer - not too much, but if you barrelled in a bit hard you could easily tuck it in or it'd go into a mini, highly controllable four-wheel drift. Does the LSD remove this?
Was just thinking what I'd like next time around. I plan on doing as I did before, which is to say get one with standard 16" tyres and non-sports suspension, but this time to fit non run-flats (probably Falkens) and perhaps fit a Miltek exhaust for a bit of aural drama. Thought the ride and compliancy of 16" tyres was way better than 17" and that it was optimal for the car.
Thoughts?
