my 7 year old got a starter fishing kit (small telescopic course rod) for christmas and i would like to take him to fishery so he can have a go at catching something.

i now that children under 12 do not need a licence but there will be a large element of me helping him. will i require a licence for this?

I would get one anyway. Then get your own gear and go together.

I wouldn't risk it, risking a £2k fine. Get a license now, it's £27 and will last till April.

A friend of mine did the same with his three boys, Bailiff not impressed, ended up in front of the Magistrates. You can buy daily licences on line for a few quid.
