I bought a Taylormade R9 driver online last September. It's been excellent up until today, far better than my ability.
I have looked after it at all times, head sock on whenever not in use, cleaning it as well as my other clubs after all games.
It's never been banged about, no temper tantrums and never crammed into the car boot.

On the 7th tee I struck a pretty good drive, dead straight, went about 220-230 yards. On the swing through I immediatley thought something was wrong, There was no ping sound and the sound of the club swinging sounded strange.
When I looked at the club I found that the top of the head had cracked in a circular'ish shape and the top had literally gone missing.

Do you think this is a warranty replacement by either the seller or by Taylormade? It's a strange way of damaging the club, and is surely a defect.

Or do I need to start looking for a new head online?

I would have thought that you should speak to the retailer you bought it from in the first place, if not, any golf shop should help you speak to TaylorMade. I wouldn't have thought it as being much of an issue to get it replaced, unless it's a dodgy copy from Asia??

Blimey, I've seen some bad skymarks on the top of clubs before but that takes the biscuit! biggrin

If it's a genuine club they'll probably replace it for you, TaylorMade are really nice folks to deal with I found (defective bag replaced with no quibbles).

Taylormade will be used to this, their quality control is very hit and miss in my experience! I've had iron sets where the chrome has bubbled really badly, badges/weights that have fallen out, and insanely easy to chip paint in the past. All their bags apart from their staff bags are appalling too, really cheap.

They do make some great clubs though, I've still got an r7 460 TP which is always there as back-up in case I start spraying my other drivers! Also managed to pick-up a bargain Tour Burner TP over the winter, but have yet to swing it in anger.

I'd speak to your local Taylor Made retailer.

The shaft of my 7 iron cracked after about a year - I spoke to the shop who I bought them from, who sent it back to Ping, saying that at worst I'd have to pay for a new shaft - 8 days later, my replacement club arrived - no charge
