Who should light the flame?

So who do you think should light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony?
The 2 front runners seem to be Daly Thompson or Sir Steve Redgrave.
I think it would be nice to use someone from an older generation.
Sir Roger Banister, obviously famous for doing the first sub 4minute mile, but never won a medal at the Olympics.
Or even older still, how about the oldest surviving GB (man and women) medal winners. Probably no moving pictures of their achievement, and probably only a couple of paragraphs in the newspapers.

Somebody worthy of such an honour. Not a pampered pet like Mr Beckham or these other sports people who are being suggested.
How about someone like Ben Parkinson the soldier who was so badly injured in Afghanistan.
That would be a good thing for the organisers to do however I doubt that it will happen which is a great pity.

This would be great - remove some of the "clutter" thats spinning around the Olympics at the moment and focus on the actual Olympic ideal (obviously will never happen for that very reason....)Sir Roger Banister, obviously famous for doing the first sub 4minute mile, but never won a medal at the Olympics.

Redgrave has real achievements on his record. Beckham has almost nothing. He certainly has no international honours whatsoever.
Pity about the road race the next day, Wiggins would have been perfect for lighting the flame (even though he already has had arm burnt this month).
