I'm going to hazard a guess that lots of people enjoy taking part and/or watching it?

Does sport upset you?

A long long time ago, a man could measure his worth by going and slaying some dragons, or doing a little bit of warmongering on the side at the weekend, them returning to his grateful village and impregnating the fittest girls.

Since all of those things are generally frouned upon these days (well, except for in certain bits of Norfolk, but i digress) these men now have to just rely on kicking an inflated pigs bladder around for an hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon instead............

It is possible to like both motoring and sport.....

I'd guess that is a majority opinion on this forum but it might just be me.

No idea! What gets me is the way it's treated like a majority thing, e.g. "Everyone's cheering on Who- or What- ever!"

No, really, it isn't.

Participating in a sport that one enjoys is pleasurable, watching one that one participates in is enlightening, but watching some other random activity is about as fulfilling as watching soap operas while posting on mumsnet.

I think playing sport is done for the same reason many men and women dance. For those few minutes and hours you forget everything, all problems, all work, all those flatpacks that need putting up. There is just you and the line. Everything is focused on getting that ball over it.

Despite the fact that you know you are going to wake up the next morning with pain from the bruises and such, on the Saturday nothing else was important.

Spectators might watch for the same reasons, I don't know. I'm just talking about playing.

I used to ride a mountain bike off road, on bridleways and such. There was a climb from Lewes to a radio mast on the Downs. I used to time myself and when I got to the toop and clicked the stop watch I was often unable to remember bits of the ride as I was concentrating so much. Not quite a sport, but in essence the same. I was competing against myself.

For some reason the pain in my legs, the coughing, the jarring of the handlebars was all worth it.

Because, if you really think about it, once you're happy enough in the amount of sex you're getting, and your brain is nicely ticking over on more thinky things....

What the f*ck else would you do with your (spare) time?

It's not "so important" unless it is your livelihood, but some people do think it is (pro and anti).
