Applying for membership - reference required

I need 2 references for a membership of a club. Who would you put down on the application form? Its to join and club and not for employment.

He didn't say they wouldn't have him as a member just that he needs references.

Don't you normally need people who are already members of said club to recommend you (i.e. give references) in these circumstances? If not just use a couple of people you know and are not family who work in professional roles e.g. doctor, teacher, architect, engineer (proper one), architect, solicitor etc.

This, for my golf club I had to be referred by at least 2 existing members
