Wembley Stadium all that cost and pitch in shade ??
Discussion
What a design fault we will have to put up with for 100 years, the pitch is half covered in shade at 3pm, a roof that sort of closes, but does not cover the pitch that does not grow - should the FA face a firing squad, and the tv companies don't even mention it !

I'm sure there is a football forum somewhere...
Best thing they ever did with the place was tarmac it for the Race of Champions.
Agreed - the only time I've ever been there and I was also bemused and distinctly unimpressed by the non-closing roof (especially as it was about 5 below and anything that could have helped warm the place up would have been appreciated).Best thing they ever did with the place was tarmac it for the Race of Champions.

But surely someone was responsible for putting the stadium in the wrong direction.
yes, the great architect of the universe when he pisitioned the sun
if you want the entire pitch in the sun you need to move the stands further back which would have meant that constructing a new stadium would have been a total waste of time
Having recently been to Wembley on a sunny day (up the Gills!) - it is not that noticeable and I was very impressed with the stadium.
However having tried to watch the cup final on TV it is terrible for TV. I second those - in that I cannot believe such a monumental cock up was made in the build that has created such bad TV events.

I thought the design of the roof was in improve the pitch by retracting (when not in use)providing more sunlight onto the grass. Perhaps they should have done that, this leaving the whole pitch in sunlight, and even more heat? I didnt see the game but heard it was baking in there, but everyone watching on telly would have been happy. Edited by snotsnfarts on Tuesday 2nd June 17:20
