censored I know when you sign a contract you expect to be paid but your timing is superb, Portsmouth are skint and you are worth 28m.

You will probably send this club under, hope you sleep well.

confused

So because he's quite wealthy, he's supposed to write-off nearly 2 million quid in money he's owed??

If the company you were working for were going under and owed you a couple of months salary, would you just leave it for a little while whilst they went bankrupt got back on their feet?

Would you care as much if it was any other ex-Portsmouth player doing this?

The amount owed to him is quite small compared to all their other debts.

If he's entitled to the money he should be paid it like any other person should be paid it if it's owing to them. I can't see him doing anything wrong. Sol Campbell isn't responsible for the running of the club and that's where the blame lies for the club's predicament. He's probably putting his name at the head of the list of any creditors if this club goes under.

I knew that would get mentioned.

It's not his fault that the club is in trouble, but `presenting a bill of 1.7million to the club is. He could earn that with a couple of stories to the news of the world.

What is he supposed to do exactly? Write off nearly £2m? It's his money!

Would you write off nearly £2m?

Even if I had £500m in the bank I wouldn't write off £2m - it's a f'ing lot of money!!

It'd take a lot more than a "couple of stories to the NOTW" to get £2m.

I think you're confusing your obvious hatred of Mr Campbell (and I'll be the first to admit he isn't the last word in loyalty or reliability) with the validity of his claim to a lot of money that his nearly-bankrupt former employers owe him.

No i would not right off any amount of money that was owed to me, and i don't think you can compare it to a normal wage/job, as i said perhaps it's because as a football fan these sort of stories piss me off.
Wonder what Portsmouth fans think?

When Portsmouth agreed to pay Campbell these wages and bonuses, they clearly didn't forsee any such problems.

Since then, the club has become a bit of a mess. This is not Sol Campbell's fault - he has a contract which entitles him to this money and should be paid - end of.

So he is supposed to worth around £28million.... and?

Let's assume this figure is wrong and that he doesn't have this wealth. Should Portsmouth pay him in these circumstances? Boot on the other foot and all that...

Indeed it is his money, but instances like this reinforce that players play for themselves and not the club or the game. Most managers are the same and It's why I would never sing a player's name or sing about being in anyone's army.

Actually strike that last comment. I once walked 60 miles to raise money for male cancer in support of Neil Harris because he's a bloke that would put a lot into Football and also his club, a real gem of a bloke - so yes there is a difference in players. Would Harris do the same to Millwall, would Le Tissier do the same to Southampton as Cambell has done to Pompey? I very much doubt it.

No Sol won't send the club under. Years of mis-management will.

Even if he is worth 28m, 1.7m is a large chunk of this and given he's coming to the end of his career this is probably several years wages to him now.

How come he allowed a debt of £1.7m to buld up? Don't these guys with £28m have financial Gurus?

Presumably if it was £1.7m then he would have left his bill for some time, possibly to try and allow Portsmouth to get the money to pay him!
