Starts this weekend, loads of 'minority' sports on the TV to break up the wall-to-wall football.

Anyone else follow winter sports? I've been an avid follower of the World Cup skeleton and bobsleigh on Eurosport this year, so will be keen to see how the GB skeleton sliders get on in Canada.

Also, the stuff like the short track speed skating is always good for a bit of controversy...

I'm quite looking forward to it actually, I like watching things like the Super G and all the bobsleigh events. Handily I'm finishing work on Friday so I'll have some free time for a few weeks to watch it.

the ice hockey will be epic, so much pressure on the host country after some poor performances in recent olympics

Looking forward to the ice hockey especially as it will be played to IIHF rules so more skillful play rather than physical play, hopefully some games will be on HD channels.

Love the bobsleigh/tea tray events, would love to have a go.

Is the American girl back again that fell after show boating her apparent win in the snowboard event?

I'm a big fan of the biathlon (for some unknown reason) so will be following that, and the other sports in general. Not interested in the ice dancing events or ski jumping (anything that has a subjective scoring element loses appeal for me), but the rest of them will keep me amused. Lots of great scenery too.

I heard that the Canadians were being a little cheeky with the pre-run practices. Apparently their team were allowed to practice on the course earlier this year, a long with a few other nations, but the GB team weren't.

Biathlon's appeal must be in the absolute lung-busting effort of the skiing and then controlling it to hit the targets. Plus also the fact that its pretty much a sporting equivalent of winter warfare, always good to see the Russians and the Germans go head to head whilst shooting!

Occasionally even the Aussies win at the Winters:

its happened with a few sports, namely the bobsleigh but also the specific locations of the ski events. the canadians know the turns to be used, what towatch out for etc etc

its not unusual though. there was a piece in the paper recently by one of the english table tennis players in the manchester commonwealth games, they were allowed to use the event well before the games and got a feel for the lighting, the grip on the floor etc. .

the piece concluded by saying is it fair, as a viewer and a journalist he wrote no, you want everyone to have an equal shot at winning, as a competitor however, he confessed that anything whcih helps you win is gladly received....

I was watching a piece on TV last night about our womens 2 man bobsleigh team.
Watching them practice somewhere in yorkshire with a bob sled running on rails made out of bits of tubular steel made me think we could make our own "Cool Runnings" film at some point.

How we win anything in the winters amazes me.

Will be watching most of it, and wishing we were in Canada....

Can Ole Einar Bjørndalen add to his 9 medals from previous games and astonishing 91 World Cup wins....

Agreed. Ice hockey normally is epic, but this will be another level imo. Sidney Crosby - the pressure is on.

having the two best keepers from the nhl in team canada should do the trick...

playing the USA on the 21st should be fun and if they meet sweden or russia later on.... no idea what the draw is though.

Ice hockey and the men's downhill skiing should be worth watching.

Some tragic news from Vancouver.

Nodar Kumaritashvili has been killed in an accident whilst training for the Luge. He crashed on the final turn.
