watching the olympics what are they made of? amazed how much they flex. could you have ones made out of a solid piece of metal? does flexing help? do u get carbon fibre ones?

also is there a max length they can be - ie von person had an advantage having larger mens skis can the men have even bigger ones?

All you need to know:

As for length as a rule of thumb they should be the same height as you when stood on their ends, this then changed when carvers came in which are much more wasted and have more flared tip and tail so that you can turn quicker / easier but resulted in a shorter ski.

In terms of racing, simply put the longer the ski the faster you will travel, however, the longer the ski and the polar moment of inertia changes and the harder they are to turn, so it's all balance.

Top down hill racer's will have ski's well over 2 meters though regardless of how tall they are.
