England squad named for Egypt game;

Goalkeepers - David James, Robert Green, Joe Hart.

Defenders - Wes Brown, James Milner, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Joleon Lescott, Ryan Shawcross, Leighton Baines, Stephen Warnock.

Midfielders - David Beckham, Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, Michael Carrick, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stewart Downing.

Strikers - Emile Heskey, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch, Carlton Cole.

Do you think this team could win the premiership?

Bit of an unfair match, that teams got 24 players in it.

Im not English so maybe somebody could explain this to me. Emile Heskey, he's a striker right? How come he keeps getting transferred about for millions of pounds, gets picked for England squads and yet seems to be incapable of doing the one thing a striker should actually be good at, scoring goals.

Up here in Scotland we had a similiar player named Duncan Ferguson, infact he got transferred about England too, again for millions of pounds yet hardly ever actually scored any goals.

Well certainly not that squad! But this team would have a shout:

James,

Glen Johnson, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole

Aaron Lennon, Owen Hargreaves, Lampard, Gerrard,

Rooney, Carlton Cole

Squad could include: Green, Hart, Bridge(maybe!), Upson, Brown, G. Neville, Lescott, Carragher (assuming he's come out of retirement for this squad!), Barry, Milner, Carrick, Joe Cole, Walcott, Beckham, Agbonlahor, Young, Ledley King, Woodgate, Defoe, Heskey.

Whipped this up pretty quickly and wouldn't actually be my first choice team (I think it is a case of Gerrard OR Lampard...Gerrard first pick) but highlights England would have a choice from a decent squad. To decide if they would win the league probably best to compare with league leaders Chelsea:

Goalkeeper worse but back-up keepers better.

If England has priority of players then defence pretty equal; Ivanovic better than Johnson, Terry and Ferdinand equal to Alex and Carvalho, Ashley Cole ahead of Zhirkov. England's defensive backup very frail though (and fragile in case of Woodgate and King).

Essien, Ballack, Mikel, Deco vs Gerrard Lampard Hargreaves Lennon - best four would probably come from Essien Gerrard Lampard and then very tough. England can certainly compete.

Rooney and Carlton Cole(or Heskey) vs Drogba and Anelka - ideal would be Rooney and Drogba, but as a partnership Chelsea's stronger.

Would be interesting to see I think. They could certainly compete, I mean a midfield of Fletcher, Scholes, Carrick, and Valencia is!

Are you really comparing Duncan Ferguson to Emile Heskey?

As for the original question - No, the England national team would not be good enough to win the league
