Could someone who understands racing look at this picture and possibly explain why the Number 9 horse was beaten in the last few lengths? As a non horse person, it looks to me as if the jockey has given up racing and dropped his hands even before he's got to the line ( comparing him with the other jockeys ).

I didn't have any money on it by the way, just a casual question. Was today at Goodwood, the 3.25.

I guess he knew the horse on his right had the lead and there was nothing he could do about it in the remaining couple of meters so coasted to the line like sprinters do.

looks fine to me, the horse is blown, jockey may have dropped hands slightly but more likely cause he can feel the tank's empty. Looks like the horse in Q is in a different part of its stride as well so it may just be the cycle of his arms looks like he's dropped his hands...got video footage?

My contact at the world's biggest betting exchange tells me there was nothing dodgy enough with it that they were looking at....

Ok chaps, thaks for that. As I said, I'm not a horse person and just took the snap for fun, but it just seemed strange to me that every other jockey seemed to be trying to drive their horse on!

Cheers!

Without seeing what went on before or after the photo it's hard to say, but to me it looks like he's either just used, or about to use, the whip.
