He'll behave like a petulent child, get sent off in a vital game (again) and because of that we will lose (again).

He got a slap on the wrist for verbally abusing the match official in the friendly/practice yesterday, which would have got him sent off in an actual game.

I always wondered what Rooney looked like in a suit... while running.

He wont get sent off for foul & abusive language during the World Cup

It's just a no mark ref blagging some media attention by saying something he knows the media will lap up

This is the entire point though. We can't win without him in my opinion, but don't deny he doesn't have a temper, and this incident will only get the opposing players winding him up. He is a volatile person and I am not convinced he can control himself, so the OP raises a valid point.

I watched some of the match yesterday and he was out of control not just in the incident that made the news but at other times too.
Getting frustrated that things dont work the same as they do for Man U... TBH I dont think he's going to do a lot for us in the world cup but as valuble as every other player.

He's always been a passionate player & always will be, it's what has got him to the level he's at now & if you took it away the rest of his game would suffer. The key is to keep a reign on it & not let it get to the point where it will get him punished. He's matured a hell of a lot since he made the breakthrough though and will know when he's pushing the boundaries & how important it is he doesn't cross them so when it comes to the important matches I have no doubt that he'll take the edge off to avoid giving the refs an excuse to send him off.

He got us knocked out last time, by being a twunt and getting himself sent off after 62 minutes in the Portugal game. If he'd just kept a lid on it, or been substituted we could have won that - given that it was still 0-0 an hour later with 10 men and injured Beckham.

Core blimey - you bloody football supporters, with your 'it's his fault' attitudes....

Roony didn't get England (it's England, not 'us') out of the last world cup; and Beckham didn't make England lose the one before that when he got sent off against Argentina.

There are 11 players on the side. England don't win competitions because they are not good enough.

Agreed however, that it is because of attitude. They are skillful enough, they just have aweful sportsman attitudes. They think that, because they are England, they have a God-given right to win the world cup - or at least get somewhere towards the final.

How about, when they come home early again, a good old sportsman like pat on the back for trying their best?

No matter what way you look at it Rooney is probably the most important player in the England squad. If England do well it'll be because he's doing the business & if he's responsible for anything it will be England progressing to a stage that they probably would not have got to if he hadn't been playing. He had a stupid moment during the last World Cup & lost his head but he's matured immeasurably since then & he's had 4 years of extra experience & will have learned his lesson.

Why? By that stage it is a knock-out competition...and on the day, anyone can beat anyone.

They may just lose; why the shoe-ing?

What you appear to be saying is that in a team, each team member can completely abjugate all individualy responsibility? Are you a communist? I don't agree. In the two examples you give of Beckham and Rooney getting sent off, it was the consequences of individual behaviour that placed the team in a position where they would really struggle to do anything but lose.... from a previously much stronger position, from which in both cases they might have won.

I accept that they were not going to win the tournament in either case as they weren't good enough, but that in no way contradicts the above point. But for the stupidity of two individuals, they might well have won those games.

Because in their pay negotiations with their clubs their agaents say "He's the best Midfielder (or whatever) in Europe/The World and is worth £150k per week".

The Club agree to pay him that and up the ticket price to us to go and watch the "best midfielder in Europe".

Well its payback time. Now the hard-pressed supporter would like a little 'glory' from the best paid players in the world...or else....
