What are the reasons against it?

And are FIFA planning to introduce it any time soon?

Because Sepp Blatter, the head of FIFA, is a complete and utter cock-knocker.

Its decisions like that against kaka that means I don't watch football outside of the world cup, amatuer dramatics and st acting, if I want to see that, I'll watch eastenders. With football at this level, for decisions like that to go ahead, they should be ashamed of themselves. Football needs to change.

Yours sincerely,

1 pissed off viewer.

About sums it up.

Just as the FA are a bunch of gormless 'suits' that have no idea.

Because the Referee is the man in charge, it's what makes football the game it is - it is his decision - period.
Where do you draw the line? have a replay after every single decision? Only when a decision is contested by the opposing team? DO you thn punish the team that called for a replay if it proves the ref was right? What about games where TV cameras are not present? etc etc etc. It opens up a whole can of worms. In cases like Kaka's sending off tonight, FIFA has it in their power to rescind the (resulting) ban for being sent off, and to punish the player who cheated. That is the way to stop things like this happening once and for all, ban the player for the rest of the competition - it is cheating and needs to be stopped!

they cant rescind the kaka sending off - no matter what - he'll still be banned for the next game.

they'll ban the plank who did the acting but kaka's sending off will stand no matter what.

As mentioned, Kaka probably cannot have his card rescinded - its absolutley crazy that they cannot correct blatant mistakes - we saw it happen in the champions league as well so the same rules apply to UEFA.

they dont want video technology in as they want power to the ref.

??? Power to the ref to make match changing mistakes, rather than power to the ref to make the correct decision.....

It works in Rugby and Cricket, it's long overdue in top flight football.

eer yes they can, the discipline committee can change the sending off if they think the ref has been tricked, and then suspend the ivory coast player. whether they do it in time for the 3rd match is another matter

any video judge should be there like he is in rugby union to be called on by the ref to advise, perhaps then the 2nd Brazilian goal would not have stood and he would have been booked instead.

My suggestion:

The referee refers all key line decisions to the video ref (ie did it cross the goal line). He can also refer off the ball incidents that have been missed by the onfield officials (ie Kaka).

Each team has three "challenges". If a manager wants to challenge a referee's decision, he can use one of his challenges to refer the decision to the video ref. If he is right, then he keeps his challenge. Each challenge also entitles the manager to make a substitution. Lose a flag, lose a sub. This stops managers spuriously challenging every decision.

It's a bastardised version of gridiron's challenge system, but I think it has some merits?

Under Article 72 of Fifa's disciplinary code it is almost certain that any appeal from Brazil on Kaka's behalf would fail, because the referee's decision is considered final except in circumstances where he has clearly booked the wrong player.
