Does not want England to win the world cup?

Normaly I would want them to win, but this time I do not like any of the players

John terry and the rest will be called heroes, we wont EVER hear the end of it.

There will be books, they will be on every TV programme not to mention parades and newspapers wking themselves into a frenzy.

The media will go into mega overdrive and I just can't be arsed with it.

Just me?

Its not really a moan about the world cup I usualy enjoy them.

Its more about the players who ok I don't know them but on the limited info I have think tehy are wkers and the media who go well over the top.

I just cant take years of people calling thick fkers like rooney heroes every 2 minutes.

they will probably get knighthoods and st like that.

The Pringle/Crouch attempt to take over the world has had the same affect on me.

Who would you like to win the world cup then?

Maybe you should move to a different country.

Patriotism indeed...

So you don't want them to do the one thing that could justify their salaries thus enforcing your little status quo?

The top footballers will never please you I bet (as you say, you don't know them and presumably just basing your opinions on how much money they earn and what you read in the tabloids) so effectively you are saying you hope England never win anything ever.

On a slightly different note, I'm not sure why footballers get so much flak for how much money they earn when film stars (a lot of whom are tossers as well) get paid loads for crap films, rock/pop stars getting loads for lame songs and F1 drivers etc. also get paid loads and don't win.

Oh I am a patriot I jsut do not put football high up my listy of prioites.

This is not about patriotism. Perhaps I should be locked up for thougt crimes. You are McCarthy and I claim my £5

Who do I want to win? nobody in particular I just enjoy watching the matches.

My support has no bearing on anything anyway so it matters little.

PS I never mentioned money you are putting words in my mouth, I care not about money they earn. I am basing my jusgment on what I have seen of them in interviews and yes things like cheating on your wife shagging grannies and roasting etc etc.

I admitted I do not know them they may well be very nice people, might.

I do know what you mean. On a human level footballers are quite immature and unworthy people and the England boys are no different (only possible exception being James who out of all of them comes across as vaguely normal). In their defence they have all led pretty weird institutionalised lives from a very young age and as a result do not possess particularly well rounded personalities.

I read your post. I was just predicting people taking the opportunity and not actually reading your OP correctly. smile

It's a great shame we didn't get knocked out today. Hey ho! It will happen come Sunday.

The hoohaa will continue for a while. But England seem to be an average team? They will no doubt go out sometime in the next few matches. The hero thing will only be so if they win?

You might be surprised on Sunday. England never play better than when they're expected to lose.

Yep, was hoping England would be out today and things could get "back to normal".

I don't really want us to get knocked out but I think I'll enjoy the event more when we do .... it's the hope, despair and tension that gets to me!

I must admit I, (with a naive football eye), thought Algeria or Slovenia deserved to go through instead on effort and spirit alone rather than have another roller-coaster of media hype, bare chests and insufferable, interminable, repetitive droning on the TV and in the papers for another 44 years.

I predict a big deal will be made that we now face our arch-enemies, ze Germans, how utterly trite, vacuous and unoriginal.

The press spends the build-up lauding them as heroes, the next minute vilifying them as cretins - there is no sense to any of it.

Madness I tell ye, madness...

I got roped into watching today's match down the pub with colleagues. It reinforced every judgemental view I have about 'football fans' in general.

I'd rather have been at home without all the boorish chanting, spilt beer and stench of stale sweat and farts. I wouldn't have had to watch the game either.

Fully agree. It pains me to say it but they are a bunch of pricks. Apart from Gerrard, who seems pretty grounded. I would have loved to have seen Gazza and Lineker in that position by contrast.
