I really fancy having a go but don't want some kind of half-baked corporate idiot special. I want to try it with a view to taking it up as a hobby. I live in the Birmingham area so somewhere near-ish would be great. Any suggestions?

Find a local club and pay for one on one tuition. It's a great sport to get in to.

The only thing I'm vaguely worried about is money; seems like it'd be easy to be addicted! Lovely Beemer, by the way.

It certainly isn't a cheap pastime but no more expensive than Golf and to me hugely more enjoyable.

Hi, SWSG won't be that far from you and they have an area set up especially for beginners, safe from the prying eyes of piss takers. They also show some very testing targets for the more accomplished shot

Oh and you're quite correct, it can end up costing you a small fortune and occasionally drive you mad.

Get out there and shoot some clays! If you find you enjoy it then find your local club (surprising number about) and try a multitdue of guns...
Be Advised you do NOT need a multi-grand berreta my first was a £500 Lincoln MultiSport (new) which is no more expenisve than a fair set of golf clubs, and I still have that gun and she's in regular use biggrin

That is rather close and looks to have more of a friendly atmosphere, shall give it a go.

It's a very friendly place and the instructors are all good guys. Wednesdays are a little more easy going than the Sunday shoots which get very busy.
Good luck and my commiserations to your bank balance.

That surprises me, for some reason I thought it probably would be a cheap pastime
