What Do Footballers Have In There Lucozade Bottles?
Discussion
I imagine it will be a Lucozade product, if not the product we know.
My youngest had trials at Blackburn Rovers a couple of years ago. Bad weather meant it was done indoors with parents herded into a viewing area around the perimieter of the astroturfy/carpetty pitch. There were boxes of packets of some strange blue powder with mixing instructions for re-hydration. Certainly not Lucozade branded, but it made me wonder.

The LSSA supplies all manner of supplements and energy drinks the fizzy stuff really only goes to white van men needing a pick me up after a night on the wife beater. They used to have a direct supply contract with the ATP/LTA as well.
The GM for Lucozade (+Ribena & Horlicks) in the UK part of my old company knows exactly how well sales are doing by the amount of discarded Lucozade bottles on the M4 central reservation on the way into Brentford in the morning.

I do some work at GSK house at Brentford from time to time , terrific bargains on all GSK products in there supermarket in there , Lucozade & ribena is so cheap it's unreal , they also sell the blue premier league plastic bottles there i tend to buy them on occasions good for posing on the road bike ,

That would have been Powerade Pro, made by GSKs rival in Sports Drinks in GB Coca-Cola.My youngest had trials at Blackburn Rovers a couple of years ago. Not true. Team GB are contracted to Powerade, and do use Powerade. I know this because I see their orders!!http://www.scienceinsport.com/product_info.php?pro...

As the title really, do these top athletes have fizzy drink, water or something else in their Lucozade branded bottles at the side of the pitch?
I have a couple of pro rugby friends they get paid every time they get the product on tv hence the constant bottles in hand, they usually empty the lucozade or whatever & have water or a sports drink they prefer in them. steve z said:

From Science in Sport, fully certified and thoroughly developed organic variants of the products PSP22 and Go Electrolyte, which were used so successfully by Team GB Cycling and Team GB Sailing at the Beijing Olympics. These are the FIRST sports nutrition products to fully meet the Organic Farmers And Growers Federation's stringent classification standards, and follow five years of continued research and development.
Depends on the club, I believe Everton have water in the big blue lucozade bottles & also pass out the smaller bottles of lucozade that you can buy in the shops, I know some clubs use Powerade.
It probably depends on each player's preference, I'd love to have an energy boost when I was knackered but I know it ruins my insides & that's surprisingly common so I stick to water, as would a fair amount of professionals I'd imagine.

In essence Powerade have the exlusive rights to being the Official Sports Drink of Team GB.
It's all just product placement, individual athletes will use what ever they think works or gives them an edge, be that maxim, powerade, lucozade sport, water or coffee, sometimes if they're poor it makes a difference.
The only thing that an affliation deal affects is that you can get loads of free product so sometimes that has an impact as illustrated above.
