this forum is about cars............unless you are in the sports forum you tool!!!!
epic compilations and nice finds fella.joe louis is,for me, as a pure heavyweight the best ever.everyone bemoans his era;it was weak with the bum of the month club and all that.i don't buy this.he was the most dominant heavyweight of any era.25 defences of a world title is still a record to this day.
there is something uncomplicated and real about my sport.it is visceral and instinctive after years of practice.it is man against man in the most stripped down, most real way of any sport.i am sitting here right now nursing a couple of beers and also a bruised rib and a black eye.i feel alive.i finished work and went to the gym and trained with other guys with the same mindset as me.there is no better feeling than connecting with another combatant who only has two hands the same as you.it doesn't depend on who has the biggest development budget.it depends on what you have in your soul, your gut.people who don't get this have never tried it.fact.get involved ,it really does make you confront your innermost feelings head on.

Love the way Holmes came back for 2nds by jumping off the car! Was he thinking of a career move to pro wrestling?Actually, Berbick didn't look too well after that with the way he got up and staggered away. Wonder if it was being landed on, banging the pavement or if Holmes got some sneaky blows in that didn't show up on the video?

seems to like boxing a bit!
Agreed. It's sometimes hard to explain and defend to antis but there's a lot to it. The dedication, sacrifice, courage, mental toughness and athleticism of boxers. The anticipation and excitement when a close contest is scheduled and the excitement of knowing that in a split second either man might land the punch that ends it and the intrigue when sometimes that seems to have happened but then a fighter recovers, rallies and a reverse is forced.
Plus the sheer athleticism, skill and technique involved. From the speed, footwork and movement of some to the devastating power the heavy hitters carry. After 40 odd years watching and practising that is something that I'm getting ever more interested in and appreciative of - the skill and science involved in throwing the 'perfect' punch. There's so much behind the delivery of one: the weight distribution, use of feet and floor, body movement and snap, the timing, the angles and accuracy etc. plus the specific training for these before a bout.
The better slow motion video capture and ease of rewinding on modern machines these days makes it easier to see as does stuff like the use of motion sensors in documentaries and science shows - I'm about as interested in seeing punch delivery revealed on monitors as on opponents in that way. Fascinating stuff and after all these years I need never stop learning. A bit like watching expert javelin/shot-put/discuss/hammer throwers.
Just a pity the long term effects are so often so bad on the individuals but there's no easy way out of that and boxers do go into it on a voluntary basis . . .

Textbook drop kick from Holmes. A proper press conference ruck, not like the rubbish handbag stuff that goes on these days.
The good old days! Shouldn't even count as one if there isn't an ear bitten or fighter's children threatened with being eaten to death. Haye's shirts? The Kahns' pushing? Pitiful . . god, I miss Mike Tyson. It is a civilised sport though, honest!

Of course if some 'tool' had posted it in General Gassing that would be a different matter
ETA - Quite liked the vid but the constant speeding up and slowing down of the action got a bit tedious.

Looking back it that Roy Jones Jr highlight, people forget how awesome he really was. It's just such a shame that he is so shot and has declined so badly in the last few years.
He would have murdered Calzaghe prime for prime.
He was phenominal there's certainly no doubting that but I'm really not so sure he would have murdered Calzaghe. He would have murdered Calzaghe prime for prime.
Roy Jones was amazing in his prime but unfortunately he spent most of his prime fighting 2nd rate opponents and is quite open about not taking a fight with Calzaghe when he was in his prime as it was a huge risk with very little reward.
Calzaghe is an awkward fighter with a superb beard so I can't see him getting knocked out but I can see him being confused and thoroughly outboxed for the first half of the fight and then managing to adjust and using his freakish stamina to rally back into the fight and finish down on the scorecards.
