From an early age, most footballers practice their football skills, keepie-uppie etc. One of these skills is to flick the ball up with their foot.

So why don't you see the throw in taker ever flick it up with a bit of style? They always pick the ball up with both hands.

They'll look like massive twits if the ball goes flying off and holds up proceedings for 20 seconds.

Hardly gonna go out of the stadium if it's a back heel onto the other foot, or a flick up to catch with hands

If they fumble it at all doing that, they'll look like a massive tt - doesn't matter whether the ball just rolls away from them or whether they kick it half way across the pitch.

There is much less chance of the ball actually coming back into play by mistake if it is collected with the hands.

If the ball is kicked into play (even if by mistake) the opposing team are entitled to a free kick from that point.

I've often wondered this. When the wistle goes at half/full time, you can be sure the closest player will leave the ball, turn around and walk driectly towards the tunnel leaving it for a ball boy to collect. What would be wrong with getting the ball and giving it a half volley back towards the ref/tunnel.

Its as if they dont like touching the ball when they dont have to. Either that or they are keeping the ball boy in a job.
