Martin O'Neill said:
I have enjoyed my time at Aston Villa immensely. It's obviously a wrench to be leaving such a magnificent club. I would like to pay tribute to the Villa players, my coaching staff and the Villa supporters for all the support and encouragement they have given both the club and me personally during my time as manager. I wish them all the best for the future. I will obviously be assisting the club in the immediate short-term with regard to the handover of my duties.
No mention of the owner scratchchin

To me, this is clearly a disagreement over the sale/ future sale of certain players.

O'neill clearly wants to build a team to compete &, one day, challenege the top clubs......

The board seem to want to cash in on their best assets rather than try to actually take the club places!

Yeah, I think MON stated he'd go if Luke Young was sold. True to his word it seems. Still, the timing sucks for Villa.

Well....

I think certain teams, like Spurs, have managed to do just enough to convince players who might otherwise have gone to stay.
Villa flattered, then failed.
The teams who poach players from the fifth place down do so not just with money, but the promise of a step up the ladder.

I like O'Neill, but he didn't deliver enough last season to convince some players that he was building something worth staying for.

As a Villa fan I think I speak for all of us when I say "stting cocksturdy fksocks". This is a major, major blow to any top four aspirations we had. I'd let all the players go before I let MO'N go. I want to know who's responsible and I want them beaten claret and blue before being lynched outside the Holte End.

Given our record, Newcastle will need a manager in about 6 weeks time regardless of how well Hughton does. O'Neill ready and waiting for a call from Ashley smile

I was surprised when I saw the headlines about Milner. If AVFC have any ambition to go progress, players like him are not the ones to be selling! That's the sort of cock up NUFC make.

6 weeks?
Blimey, I wish I was that optimistic.

Did any of us have serious aspirations of making the top four this season though? We werent good
enough last season and have done nothing to remedy that. Even with a few more players we still
needed a plan B tactically.

Id like to see Martin Jol come in, I know Fulham tried but I think he'd do a solid job for us.

Not only the Board but it was whingeing Villa fans moaning at MON.Same Villa fans who moaned at Deadly Doug - despite the millions he spent on tranfer fees.
Top Four?? - dream on dude - sorry but that is the brutal reality(and remember Spurs grabbed 4th place only because Liverpool had a freakishly bad season). Villa fans need to wake up and smell the coffee.
(And no i am not a Bluenose!)

But you have to try ..... otherwise whats the point, we may as well simply ask you at the start of the season where clubs "deserve" to finish and you can tell us.

Fair enough - but i'm just being brutally realistic- Villa are a decent side but they just don't shout Top 4
