The best European Championships for Britain ever and we lack a thread?

Stunning performance from the ladies all week, Fran Halsall is an absolute monster in the pool!

I've watched a fair bit of it. Some great UK performances.

Also some good camerawork and nice to see them in (relatively) sensible swim suits.

Did the guys get any medals? The girls did fantastically well, I saw a couple of 1-2s in the final session today on TV, and it seems half of them have their eye on the Commonwealth games.
Glad to see the rubber suits have gone, back to swimmers against each other without a technology race in the background.

I don't think we see many sports threads on here other than the Olympics and football (excluding motorsports, obviously).

Joe Roebuck got a medal in the 200 IM.

Male swimming in Britain is at a bit of a crossroads at the moment at senior level. Some of the old guard are reaching the end of their career, but there are some good youngsters - we had a strong performance at the recent European Juniors. Watch out for a 15 year old, Matthew Johnson from Sheffield. He's been winning every event at the national age groups for years now and at the recent national youth championships, he was winning events in the 15/16 age group in times faster than the 17/18 year olds. 2012 might be a bit soon for him, but 2016 looks promising.

The women are quality though. Simmonds and Spofforth are the pick IMO, their dominance of the 100 and 200 back was extremely impressive. As for Halsall, watch out for Amelia Maughan, she's 14 and has been faster than Halsall through the age groups.

Halsall isnt about times though, she is an out and out racer. She is an absolute monster in the pool, Adlington is similar, another absolute monster who, when she decides she is going to nail the race bang on, eats up and spits the competition out. I agree with you about Simmonds and Spofforth though, they have that aura about them and drive each other one. Their peers are nowhere near them and dont have the immediate intimate rivaly to drive them past those two.

Its the first time Ive really seen a GB ladies team actually have this attitude, in any of our sports outside of sailing. They are now in a place to really challenge the Aussies and Yanks properly.
