PH surfers....? (like the water version not interweb stuff)

Right so it seems I have picked up another sport-based hobby that is time consuming, annoyingly difficult, involves chatting endlessly about the merits of various bits of kit and is lots and lots of fun...
After picking up a 2nd hand mini-mal at the start of the summer I am now slowly getting to grips with this surfing lark.* Avoiding the slab dabblers, nodding sagely about not heading out at slack tide, heading for the green room at every opportunity and lots of other things that I really don't understand
Quite a few days have been spent this summer at the beaches of Devon, Cornwall and Wales - and in that time seen quite a few cars that I am sure belong to ph'ers, including this weekend in the Gower a ZM3 coupe in grey wrap with yellow rimmed wheels (much nicer than the image you may currently have in your bonce).
So, come on then, who else is out there, brah?

I used to surf from the ages of 11 to 17 ( skateboarded too) i lived close to gower beaches in swansea south wales which are pretty good all round surf beaches, had a mini mal and a short board for speed and bigger waves, it was a 5' 10" pigeontail with monkey grip loved it still have it actually but stopped surfing when i was 17 as going out and drinking took over, although i wish i continued surfing.
Unfortunately i have no time now as im a kickboxer and it takes up alot of time for me!.
Enjoy it op, its an amazing sport and you'll be surprised at how fit you get doing it!.

Hi mate, I started surfing when I was growing up in South Africa and go down Regularly to the places you've mentioned...well...up until the old girl packed up on me, looking for some new wheels now so i'm thinking an Audi estate to chuck the boards and gear in.
Fantastic sport and gets you hooked from the minute you stand up for the first time!

I've been surfing since I can remember!
We used to spend the whole of the summer holidays in a caravan down at Gwenver beach which is just next to Sennen Cove.
I started out with bodyboarding and progressed to stand up in my early teens.
The family holidays eventually stopped when I was aorund 15/16 and I didn't surf for a good few years.
But a few years ago I got back into and now try to go as often as I can.
Living in Bristol means I'm only a 2hr drive from the likes of Croyde / Woolacombe, and at least once a year I'll venture down into Cornwall, last year it was Bude, this year Perranporth for a week.
Its a great hobby, I feel at home when I'm out on the waves, probably due to spending so much time in the sea when I was younger.
Nowadays I split my surfing between bodyboarding (the proper type, out back with swim fins and a proper board, not splashing around in the breakers with a £20 floater) and stand up using a 7'6 mini mal, although I'd like to get a short board over winter.
We were down in Perranporth last week and heard that at the start of this week a 31yr old guy died there

That surfer was Matt Upsher, he was a teacher in hayle, my parents live just up the road in Gwithian. Fantastic guy with a lovely spirit for life. I know people usually say that, but it's true.
