The Commonwealth Games get underway in a few days but there are serious doubts over the standard of the venues that have been built and now one of the main bridges that spectators will be using to get around the site has collapsed, injuring several people. Not the best way to start!

Here's hoping the competition will be better, don't know why but I always look forward to these.

Going by what I'm seeing on tv right now it looks like the whole thing is going to get called off.

India has spent over £1bn, 13 new stadiums built. Too much invested!

India aint half getting a pasting over this though.

India has spent £2.6bn, £1bn over already. And parts of the athletics track have collapsed!

India in "massive sthole with appalling construction practises and hygiene, now with added islamic extremists taking potshots at Taiwanese tourist buses" shocker.

Could be worse, it could be Pakistan I guess...

i cant see the games going ahead. from the sounds of it the locals arent too keen on having the games either in a country where its cricket or nothing.

its going to be one huge embaressment if the games dont go ahead. alot of the major names have dropped out or "got injured" for a reason.

just seen on the news, the organiser blokey says the storys about filthy rooms are a misunderstanding due to higher western hygeine standards, and that to him and india its classed as clean.

so, basically, he is saying the indians are 'dirty bds'

"Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has stepped into the debate, stating that "time is running short" for the Games.

He added that it was "up to the athletes to decide themselves whether they want to attend or not"."

no it shouldnt be - the team should be going if you start having 1 or 2 premadonnas then they should face life ban. if its that bad find a hotel. as usual the media are trying to make it into something it is not.

He added: "Given that about 80 people die in India whenever someone opens a cupboard, if they can keep the Commonwealth Games death toll to under 3000 it should be regarded as unqualified success"

Hate to make this worse but if they can't manage to get a Commonwealth Games together haven't they got to a Grand Prix organised as well in like 2011/2012 or something?

The Grand Prix circuit is being built by the private sector with Vijay Mallya's group heavily involved. I think they'll do a good job.

Anyone catch the opening ceremony?

Was actually pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it went. Was a nice spectacle.
