Voted use, but maybe Rule Britannia?
I don't think the lyrics are very apt in modern times, Rules the Waves? Poole Harbour maybe. Plus more British than English.Shaw Tarse said:

Listening to Jerusalem when we win at the Commonwealth games is just boring. It's long, dull, and no one knows the words.
But how many people know the words to God Save the Queen?I'm quite gobsmacked people don't know the words to Jerusalem
But for comparison first lines
"And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green
And was the holy lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen"
vs
Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned,
God make thee mightier yet !
On Sov'ran brows, beloved, renowned
Once more thy crown is set.
No mention of England throughout - sung across the UK, described as British patriotic song
Whereas Jerusalem is clearly an English anthem. No contest.

I've never agreed with the national anthem being about the queen - It should be about the country.
As for Jerusalem, well that's religious b
ks isn't it.
As is God save the Queen, and Land of Hope and glory, if anything they are more definitively religious than Jerusalem. As for Jerusalem, well that's religious b
ks isn't it.the most definitive reference to God in Jerusalem is the 'countenance divine" hardly God who made thee mighty etc. or the Prayer that is the current Anthem.
But you miss the point it's not about the person of the Queen herself, but the Crown which is the nation.
In fact Jerusalem is almost secular, as it speculates on an English Legend, then speaks about building Jerusalem effectively short hand for a fair and kind society.
In short your comment is b

I don't mind, I think it's up to the athletes which one they want - I don't see how it is for us to comment.
Except it's not the athletes that decide, it's probably this bunch: http://www.weareengland.org/Why should we give up our national anthem?
God Save the Queen/King is the only anthem we've ever had. Just because the Scots and the Welsh feel the need to justify their subordinate positions within the artificial construct that is "Britain" by having their own little songs to make themselves better, it doesn't mean we have to.
At least the Welsh have a rousing song with a bit of history and pedigree to it! The Scots can't even agree on what song they have, and most settle for a mournful dirge written by a folk band in the 60s bemoaning the fact that the Scots haven't really managed to do anything worthwhile since they temporarily set back Edward's kicking the crap out of them!
Let's rightfully have GSTQ as the English (and British, if you like that sort of thing) National Anthem, and any countries who don't like it can have their own folk song instead.

ks? So the "countenance divine" is the most definitive reference to God in Jerusalem? How about the line that precedes it that mentions the "Holy Lamb of God"?
I never disputed the implied meanings of the songs, I just don't like the lyrics... Or references to religion.
