Sad to hear this. He was one of the great characters in football and we could do with more people of charisma and personality in the game. My fantasy team of Bowles, Worthington, Hudson, Friday, Curry etc.. would always have been managed by Big Mal.

RIP Big Mal frown

He changed the whole way of life at Crystal Palace when he first came

He changed that thinking,he made us believe even in the 3rd division and sat us all down on that roller coaster of ups and downs,he gave us a different mind set with Champagne a big hat,red and blue plus......EAGLES !!!!!!!

A cup run that included winning away at Stamford Bridged Roker Park and Ellend Road, not by defending but in every case playing the higher league opposition off the park

Legend

Enjoy the Campagne and Cigars up there Mal, you deserve them

So so sad to see one of the real charismatic football managers pass away

Big Mal will be sorely missed

I liked Big Mal and thought he was one of the games characters back in the 70's, with his fedora and big cigar. Learnt a lot from another great old manager, Joe Mercer. Even had a fling with Fiona Richmond IIRC.

RIP big Mal.
