Gordon Strachan has resigned as Middlesbrough manager after less than a year in charge at the Riverside.

Strachan departed with the club in 20th place in the Championship, their lowest league position for 20 years.

"He offered his resignation but not only that - in doing so he tore up his contract," Boro chairman Steve Gibson told BBC Tees.

"He sought no compensation and walked away from the club with empty hands and it's a measure of the man."

Gibson added: "He (Gordon) would be the first to admit that things haven't turned out as we'd have hoped.

I was watching The Football League Show a few weeks ago and they showed some highlights of a Boro home game, the stadium was virtually empty, how do the fans expect the club to prosper if no one goes to any games.

Good riddance. Heard some of his post-match press interviews? Awkward fker at the best of times.

Southgate must feel vindicated now. Cushy ITV job and no pressure - ideal!

Bet he'd give that up tomorrow though!

Average around 26/30,000 so not exactly "low low attendances" but not big either, however the stadium is at least 5,000 seats too big and this doesn't help!

definatly

i've been up to see em play rovers a few times and i think when they designed it they expected bigger things to happen to the club.

but to be fair they suffer from the same syndrome as rovers in that its not the most affluent area

Seriously? Some of Strach's post match press conferences have been superb.

"Gordon, can I have a quick word?"

"Velocity"

Pretty quick thinking if you ask me.

His post-match at the weekend was cringeworthy.

Wonder what this "next level" Boyd was talking about after leaving The Rangers rolleyes

Spot on! Seeing games at the riverside when they were in the Prem just reminds me of Wigan with their many empty seats as well.

Fair play to the chap though apparently he just agreed to leave, no money or anything.
