On the basis that virtually everything I want to happen in football goes the other way (like King Midas in reverse), I now want to congratulate Qatar on winning the vote to decide the venue of the 2022 World Cup.

I've been looking at moving to Qatar (Doha) and it has just got a bit more appealing!

Might be warm? I still remember Jack Charlton in Mexico walking up and down with bottles of water.

When I was in Kuwait it used to get up to 47-49C, in Qatar it will be more humid as well. We are screwed!

Lived there for 7 years, it will exceed all expectations of just how bad it will be.

Too hot, no bars as such (unless this has changed), no football history and no public transport that I can think of other than cheap nasty taxis.

Wonder if I'm eligible to play for the national team scratchchin

A 12 year stint in Doha, and whilst it gets knocked about even more. Not tempting.. At all.

Presume that games will get spread about through the UAE and bahrain?

They are a nation with a proud footballing heritage. I hear that as many as 10% of their 1.7m inhabitants have heard of the game.

Plus everyone knows that 50 degree heat makes the game faster due to reduced air resistance.

Map of Qatar's World Cup venues *

* They haven't been built yet. Not much call for football round these here parts.

Wiki on Qatar FA

I'd print it out and take it to read on holiday, if I were you.
