at 35 aside from the commercial aspect i cant see why teams think he would be able to handle the pace of the premiership...

i sorta understand rovers and newcastle going for him but spurs??

Like him or not, what I've read about him suggests that he's one of the fittest footballers out there - even at 35. And you can't deny he's certainly one of the most motivated. I suspect he's considerably fitter than most 20 somethings.

There is much more to Becks than his playing ability. Sure people will come on here and moan about his lifestyle etc, but he's continued playing at a high level through looking after himself. That's a lesson the current Spurs squad could well do with reminding about.

Two aspects; training and playing.

Training - he'll be a great addition to the whole team in training, helping the youngsters and leading by example, but specifically players like Lennon and Routledge, who can get past the left-back with ease but couldn't put a decent cross in if there mothers life depended on it.

Playing - if you're chasing the game, you bring him on as a sub with 20 mins to go (so fitness isn't an issue), stick him high-up on the right wing, and pepper the six box with pin-point crosses for the likes of Crouch, Pavyluchenko (sp), Carroll.

He was never renowned for his athletic ability anyway, albeit impressive. He could create chances from nothing, pinpoint a player and open up the game without doing a massive amount of work and running himself intothe ground. Plus you imagine the interest his presence will generate, not to mention the priceless skill he can pass on to younger team mates. You're missing the bigger picture methinks.

I bet he's 100x fitter than me at 20, too.

Pace, perhaps, but he worked all game, tracked back impressively...

oh yeah definately he used to be all over the pitch - non-stop running.

would be interesting if he went to spurs - they've got Man u and AC milan in that 11-15 game window of his.

Agreed, fitness and effort..more than outright pace. But a lot of people don't think a player is any use unless he can run like the wind. He never really needed to.

Even as a Manchester City fan, I have to say Becks was/is a great player, and would be a nice addition to any squad, albeit for a couple of months.

A great role model too.

This seemed to be the main thing Arry was saying in that interview with sky. Having him in the training camp and on the pitch should also boost morale and confidence.

At 35 he is still a very good player, he would not have made nearly 30 appearances for AC Milan while on loan over the last 2 years if he wasn't

Beckham was a good player in some great teams...world class dead ball striker and crosser of the ball. Once all the hype has died down and he's retired and we look back objectively I don't think people will say he's better than Gerrard was for example. He gets a lot of plaudits for his work rate but I am fairly sure that there was a game in the 2006 World Cup where he didn't make a single tackle.....now that really is exceptional.

Having said all that there are plenty of managers who like having the guy round their teams as a role model so he must have something...Wenger, Capello and now Harry all like or want him for his influence. I suspect it was the case with both AC Milan and now Spurs that the magic of brand Beckham is what they really wanted...but they'd never say that. Money talks...Real Madrid reckoned he was the cheapest player they ever bought and were stunned at how much Man U sold him for.

Beckham is, to all intents and purposes, a BILLIONAIRE living in LA. He could sun himself and never lift a finger until the day he dies.

Yet he wants to come over to this sh thole of the coutry to play football in the cold.

This tells you all you need to know about how motivated he is.

I agree with everything said - he's the consummate professional and would be a fantastic addition to any dressing room.

With regards to work rate - you have top really see him live as the telly won't stay on him - he never stops. Was the thing that struck me the most when I first watched him play.

You could also argue that his move to LA Galaxy in 2007 would tell you how he was more motivated by money than playing at the highest level possible for him at that point in his career.

No fottballer in Europe was being offered £500,000 per week.
£25million per year, for five years.
£125,000,000.
Brought everything up to another level.
And all that money was salary. NOT sponsorship on top.
Plus he wanted an England Shirt.
Plus he wanted to train in the US off season.

Get real.
Cut Becham in half you'll find FOOTBALL written right through.
