The Trout Fishing Thread
Discussion
I had a search for fishing and I found one about sea fishing, and one on pole fishing, and that was it. I thought there must be loads of troot men out there in PH land, so I thought I would try and find out, and see if we can share any tips on waters, bait, flies, techniques blah blah.
Personally I've been stocking up over the last couple of months an new gear. Loads of new flies, nylon, fly line......you get the drift.
I am also putting a boat on Lochearn this year and it is a good place to reach other lochs from. I am also lucky enough to be just a couple of miles from the rivers Devon, Allan and Forth and loads of hill lochs.
So lets see if we can maybe get something going.

Hi f. Welcome. Funny enough I've always fancied trying out places like Rutland. I watch Hywell Morgan on sky and some of those places he fishes seems pretty good although they do look like fisheries mostly. I am lucky where I am though. If I fished everyday of the season in different places I could stay in a 20 mile radius.
I used to coarse fish in my teens, then at the age of 42 rediscovered fishing last August and took up fly fishing. I bought a cheap kit for £45, went out to a local mill pond, and started catching trout straightaway. It's me that is hooked.
Now several hundred quid lighter, I have been fishing on Ryburn Reservoir (Ripponden, West Yorkshire) and Clegg Hall (near Rochdale, Lancashire). During the winter months I have been stocking up on flies, collecting various bits of kit, and watching Hywell Morgan DVDs. I still need lots of casting practice, but bit by bit, I am learning the dark art. I am all for having our own lounge for fishing, after all, its the UK's biggest sport!

Used to flyfish when I lived in the UK, but not much trouty fun to be had around Paris, plus 3 kids, work, yadda yadda. Only manage once or twice yearly trips to see a buddy in Scotland for a few days.
It's a shame because the old saying about time spent fishing not counting as part of your allotted years has a certain truth to it...
Video to wet your appetites - there be monsters!

I have also spent more money on gear than usual this winter. The thought of thinking about fishing rather than work always brings a smile to my face. Even if you don't fish the fly the anticipation of watching a bubble, or a rod end moving, just gives such a rush. Hopefully heading up to Swanswater for a few hours next week and roll on March the 15th
