And what a faff it appears to be. Not only must one have a Visa card (a what? Not had one of those for years) to order online, the allocation process appears to have been dreamt up on the hoof and I have a horrible feeling it won't work.

I would really like to see the olympics but I just know that it is going to be an expensive disappointment in terms of a day out. Or should that be a small part of a day, because the tickets are not for a whole day it appears, one session only. On top of the ticket price there's the hotel, train tickets, food, programs, flags, life-sized replicas of Mandville and Wenlock...

Mrs Manks thinks I am being a skinflint because I am refusing to go and that it probably the only chance our children will get to see a British Games. But I am confident I can win them over by spending on three new large flat screen TVs the money we'd have spent on sitting twenty rows back at the second qualifier for the senior women's curling. We can watch whatever events we like in big pictures, from the comfort of our sofa (or the kitchen or study) and when the games are over the children can have Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine and Noddy in HD. It's an easy sale, honestly.

How much are tickets for your birthday?

Nice to know Britain has a choice of events to choose from that day.

Just applied for 8 AA tickets at the Basketball final (4 X 2 on separate cards to hopefully up the odds of getting them)

How are touts going to work - are they just going to use multiple cards to buy up tickets then sell them on somehow? I cant see that touts WONT get a look in....but the rules seem so strict I cant quite see how they can?

In the FAQ section, there will be a place for re-selling unwanted tickets, only at list price or less. If you get all 8 tickets I don't know how that will work?!

My plan:
Sat 4th Aug - Athletics in the stadium (and my birthday!) seats in band C (£150) I reckon.
Sun 5th Aug - Women's marathon in the morning (hopefully my coach's wife will be racing) - free to watch.
Stadium in the evening, seats in band C again (£125).

If I feel rich I might upgrade to band B (£295 a session).

It's fine, if I get all 8 I could sell the other 4 (at list price) to mates .... which is OK. Seb Coe has said there is no issue with people getting tickets for friends and being paid face value.

My question was just in general - with all the rules, how will touts get a look in/where will they sell tickets/who would buy them knowing how strict the rules are???

Surely they will make it so you can only get in with ID that is linked to the tickets in some way

My understanding is that they will look for a "ticket leader" - so if you have 8 tickets and turn up with 7 mates its fine as you are with the "leader" who bought the tickets. This means family and friends can take each other (and if they sort each other out with cash no one really cares) - but if you turn up having got yours on ebay, in theory, you wont get in.......time will tell.

Sods law the USA wont make the final and I'll have 8 tickets at £500 each to watch some obscure Turkey V Greece final instead of the NBA fest I am hoping for!

I live in Cardiff and am going for the football tickets to the bronze medal game. Hopefully Brazil will fail to make the final and come to Cardiff biggrin

really want to buy some tickets but why cant they at least give me a clue as to where i would be sitting for each price point. want to see the 100m atheletics but at which price point do you stand a chance of being on the home straight!

why make it so complicated frown

I've been to a few athletics events and in general the tickets near the finish line are the most expensive, followed by tickets on the home straight. If you really want to be on the home straight, go for the most expensive tickets. The less you pay, the more risk you accept that you'll not be on the home straight.

Having said that there will be big screens visible from everywhere showing replay after replay of the 100m final, so even if you're sat at the top of the other side of the stadium, you'll have seen it live, seen the replays and been part of what will be a great atmosphere (which is the only reason for going really).
