I would just like to say how much i enjoy Ray Wilkins punditry on Sky sports in the recent weeks , He seems to speak sense without all the old rubbish cliche's that the likes of Jamie Redknapp seems to prattle on about . I hope he becomes a regular pundit for the rest & next season,
I used to have a market stall in London's busy Berwick street market ( was then sadly not these days ) & Mr wilkins used to frequent the voice over studio's in berwick street & he always came for a little 5 minute footie natter with the market boys , he didn't have to but was never up his own bottom to keep his head down & skulk pass , I'm sure that anyone else who has met him would say the same sort of nice guy thing about him.
I think he would be a great asset to the sky sports football team

I thought he was very good in our match v milan @ the San Siro I used to have a market stall in London's busy Berwick street market ( was then sadly not these days ) & Mr wilkins used to frequent the voice over studio's in berwick street & he always came for a little 5 minute footie natter with the market boys , he didn't have to but was never up his own bottom to keep his head down & skulk pass , I'm sure that anyone else who has met him would say the same sort of nice guy thing about him.

I like him too - seems other Liverpool fans don't have the same opinion...

They didn't deserve to lose by this margin. They've defended wonderfully, just wonderfully. STAY ON YOUR FEET. Smashing. Wonderful. Keep possession. Spurs need to keep control of the ball more. Wonderful pass by Luka Modric, just wonderful. STAY ON YOUR FEET. Great defending by Michael there. You have to stay on your feet in this game, and keep possession against a smashing side like Madrid. Wonderful stadium, just wonderful. At least Harry can say that he made a remarkable comeback against Inter Milan earlier in the season, where they scored goals. Wonderful player is Bale, just wonderful. STAY ON YOUR FEET.

yep i agree also. i cant believe we are going to have to get used to that retard red nev on our screens
That guy is going to prove just what a complete gomlord he really is.I'm looking forward to some new folk on SS, I'm getting so sick of the same old cliches being trotted out by Redknapp et al. Looking forward to him on a United v Liverpool game, should be interesting.

I'd guess he knows more about football than most though, and certainly more than the above posters...
how's that then?? Like I said, he's a bit of a tosser, but he knows what he's talking about when it comes to football.

Off the top of my head - won everything there is to win in the domestic game, including 8 Premier Leagues titles, 3 FA cups and 2 Champions Leagues and spent his entire career working under the best manager of a generation.
so? that proves he was a very good player thats all. using your logic he also knows a lot more about football than jose mourinho which i seriously doubt he does. ascayman said:

Really? When it comes to saying what exactly a player - esp a defender - is doing on the pitch, how he is playing Id say Red Nev is entirely more qualified than Jose. And I say that as an LFC chap who thinks cant stand the b@stard.

so? that proves he was a very good player thats all. using your logic he also knows a lot more about football than jose mourinho which i seriously doubt he does. What I did suggest is that given his experience and success, he has better footballing knowledge, pedigree and expertise than you. Not Mourinho. You might also infer that I meant that being part of one of the best defences in the league for the last 15 years and being coached by the best manager might leave him with the ability to make intelligent and astute observations about the game, but given you can't stretch to the use of capital letters I won't hold it against you if you didn't.
It won't be the first time Neville has been on a pundit for Sky Sports, and the previous times he's been on there he's acquitted himself very well - hence being offered a more permanent position. I'm a Man U fan and even I think he's a bit of a cock, but being a cock doesn't make him a 'retard' as you so eloquently put it.

I don't follow. Are you suggesting that one of the previous posters; Black can man, Spurs-442, hornetrider, B1G GK, VXRuss or yourself is Jose Mourinho? Because I think that is what you have written.allgonepetetong said:

no, what im saying that is just because red nev was an excellent footballer which he was with an impressive medal haul which he has, doesn’t necessarily mean that he knows more than people who are less talented.ascayman said:

When you say people less talented, do you mean the above posters, Jose Mourinho or both?ascayman said:

Both jose mourinho and all the posters above were less talented than Gary Neville at playing the game. With due respect to Black can man, Spurs-442, hornetrider, B1G GK and VXRuss I would say, and it is only my opinion, that a former player with 8 Premier Leagues titles, 3 FA cup winners medals, 2 Champions League winners medals and his entire career managed by the best manager of a generation would know considerably more about his chosen profession than some amateur armchair pundits with perhaps a season ticket at their local club.
I'd probably include you in that list as well.

my point is as Mantis originally said that he (Neville) knows more than most about football because he had a very successful playing career is in my opinion debatable.
as mouriniho(and many others) has proved you don’t need to have a successful playing career to have an in depth knowledge of the game. In fact ive spoken to footballers who freely admit that despite being very good and successful at playing the game they don’t really have the knowledge of the game that some coaches/less talented players/even some fans do.

You're right that a footballing career doesn't guarantee someone can analyse the game as a pundit. Look at Dwight Yorke. my point is as Mantis originally said that he (Neville) knows more than most about football because he had a very successful playing career is in my opinion debatable.

However, you started off saying Neville is a retard and suggesting that he knows nothing about football. Neither can be proven beyond doubt on an internet forum, but it's pretty clear to me that Neville isn't a 'retard' and I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that he knows a lot more about football than you and the vast majority of football fans in the country. If you add the fact that he's already proven to be able to analyse and discuss football games as a pundit very well, I think you could be accused of talking utter rubbish because you don't like him.
