If so, any recommendations for a wetsuit and goggles? (for sea swimming)

www.swimclub.co.uk/forum (sections on wild swimming and competitive open water) and the OWSS site are good sites for a look around.

I swim competitively, mainly in the pool, but have done quite a few open water races in the past year or so. Can't really help with recommendations as I don't wear a wetsuit and am short-sighted so have to get prescription googles.

Do you really need a wetsuit? What sort of swimming did you have in mind? Where/what time of year?

No idea if it's of any help or even relevance other than being about swimming in the sea, but there was something on 'Coast' on BBC2 (I think) tonight about it. I just caught it while channel hopping. Could be worth a look, or not, but I thought it worth mentioning smile

Not sure if it helps you fella, but I do a lot of open water swimming (for triathlon) and have an Orca Sonar wetsuit http://www.orca.com/product/sonar-fullsleeve-mens and as far as goggles go, you may be aware of the wide field of view goggles (which look more like a mask tbh) - personally I don't get on with them, but you may be OK with them.
I just use a pair of Aqua Sphere Kaiman's which I've always found an excellent fit and never had a problem with misting or leaking - well, most of the time anyway - bit of a different story when someone inadvertantly punches them off my face!!!

I'd recommend some rubbery gloves as well. I only wore shorts and footwear last summer in a Highland river, and then going down some rapids I split my finger open on a submerged rock, making a right mess (it still hasn't mended properly).

I was somewhat annoyed when they closed my local pool - does that count?
