My diffuser looks like this:

..but I'm thinking of painting it body color, a la this S4:

But is my diffuser made from a different material (will it hold paint less well) than those from 98-01 V8s, a la:

'98 diffuser is black. IMHO, the black matches the black trim on the rest of the car and contributes to the overall feel of the details. One of the main reasons I picked the '98. (I feel the same way about the black plinth)...

All IMHO

On my previous S4 when I did the dual outlet exhaust, I had the diffuser painted to match the calypso red and thought it looked much better. A friend painted his diffuser on his 1998 V8 to match his silver V8 as well and it too looks nicer. I'd paint it to match.

It unbolts with two bolts through the pillars. Find your paint code (Dupont) and have it sprayed at a good shop with clear coat. Maybe cost your $100!

I'm worried about the heat from the pipes causing the paint to chip. Any of that?

Keep it black; it visually lightens the bulk of the back end.

Never had any issues of paint chipping off the rear diffuser on my previous 1994 or my buddies 1998.
