Curious - Fastest 1/4 or dyno pull for Esprit?
Discussion
I'm curious about what the best quarter mile trap speed (and ET, although more subjective) that anyone has run with their turbo 4 (or V8 too) Esprit?
I'm not looking for a debate or flame war over dynos, modifications, if Esprits should be used for drags, or whether or not 1/4 traps are good for hp calculations, just interested in seeing what people have run.
Personally, my previous recorded best was a 13.1XX at 111.xx mph, in cool air with so-so traction. Dyno plots at that time showed 285 rwhp, thereabouts +/- 5, with a good flat torque curve. I think it was reasonable given that was at 1.1 bar max, stock turbo, and a no cat 2.5" exhaust.
I'm now running 1.2 bar max, a hybrid T04 turbo, a 75hp wet nitrous shot, and a 3" open exhaust and will track soon with some results to post here. Probably head down to Fayetteville to run if some locals are interested in going sometime. They have an open night where you can get a bunch of runs in for cheap.
Just like to see what folks are doing and how they're doing it.
Best,
Ron

Ron, I don't have any hard numbers yet but I have an appointment in 3 weeks to dyno my Esprit. I also plan to take it to the track that week as well to see what she will run. I would do it sooner, but I am more motivated to get my Talon into the 11s and dynoed again (shooting for 400WHP on pump gas), as well as getting moved into my new house.
Rumor at this point, but I remember hearing about an S4 on 1.2 bar, no cat, K&N, ram air, 104 pulleys and stock turbo running 12.6@112 not too long ago.
Good luck with your runs and dyno time. Keep us posted on your progress.

Gtechs are not usually too far off - providing you weight is ACCURATE. I tried mine using magazine weights but found they were far off when I actually weighed the car. Your Gtech times are much faster than stock V8s Esprits when timed by Car and Driver, Road and Track, and others.
Hold downs are no problem. You can anchor the A arms or tranny mounts easily. Upfront use the suspension arms. The dyno operators will help you out with this, they've done it a lot and you'll have a nice time.

Hi,
The Gtech Competition Pro Meter uses a 3-axis accelerometer and is temperature compensated. Don't confuse with the earlier Gtech meter which uses a single.
Acceleration is accurately measured and the weight of the vechicle has no affect on this whatsoever. The Gtech uses weight only to calculate rear wheel power/torque. As a result, there will be slight errors as it can not compensate for any aerodynamic drag, ie, calculated power/torque will be a bit less than actual, provided you input an accurate weight.
I used 3230 pounds as the vehicle weight which should be quite close based on the specified weight of the Esprit V8 noted at 3043 pounds and another 187 pounds for the fat driver (me). Overall, I feel the figures are accurate having had casual runs against Z06 vettes and Vipers and neither could pull away.
Do note however that I keep my Esprit in top running condition and the only mod (so far) is a pair of ITG Pro-Filters replacing the stock Delco papers.

Iam going to Gtech my '02 V8 in the next couple of days and I will post my time. I took my car to a weigh station and it weighed at 2960 lbs. Keep in mind 1/2 tank of gas, no driver, no straight pipes (no dead weight muffler). When I sat inside and did the weight, it was at 3140 (I wight 180 lbs.) I Gtech'd my previous Porsche at the track. I connected my Gtech and ran the 1/4 mile time. It was only .10 th of second faster than the actual time of the track. Not bad!!! I will post my time very soon. Meanwhile if you want to know what my car sounds like with the straight pipes on here is video clip.

Kmaiser, have you run it at the track?
I have the Competition pro with the data logging etc. and it is fairly close, but only when I got the weight right. I came in at 287X pounds when I weighed the car. I've done many more mods, larger turbo, more boost, better exhaust, and hope to be down in the 12s next time I'm back.
Sobemike, what were your times on your V8?

No, not run at the track, just using the Gtech on a perfectly flat road on a perfect South Florida winter day ;-). Your results sound a bit odd as Tesla states that weight input data is only used for calculating power/torque, hence should not affect acceleration run data, and this makes perfect logical sense.
While I agree the times show better than the C&D, R&T, etc. test scores, do note that all of these tests were on older V8s that did not have the newer ECM mapping which was standard on 2000 and higher MY and the 1999 Sport 350. I've driven a 1999 V8 which has the original ECM mapping and straight pipes and it is not as fast as mine. We even ran both cars down the road and I can always pull away. The 1999 V8 gets serious torque around 4500 RPM while 2000 V8 and later get it right down at 3000 RPM.

Don't know about that either since it shouldn't affect a thing on the timing. Maybe it was just user error and newness, I don't know. But, seemed once I got it setup it was within 0.1-0.2 on the track and mphs were close too. When I go this time to test the new turbo etc. I'm going to be running this thing at the same time.

The other thing to consider is that KM's car gets a lot of use. I've always found a car's performance improves with mileage. Maybe the test cars for those magazines were a bit new and "tight" also?
Very true, and with almost 39K miles on it now, it's running great, sans cracked exhaust (4th one) and leaky radiator ;-)

Bet it's faster then that now!

What I want to know is when is John going to offer his 4 and 6 pot front brake kits for those of us that have Brembo brakes on our cars. Any word John?
