Made an offer today.

Well,I tried to buy this non running 1988 Esprit at an Estate auction on Saturday, but my winning bid of $7000 was rejected by the seller. She asked for $10,000.
The story on the car is that its been sitting for 16 months. The auctioneer claims that it would crank, but only run about 5 seconds. It is sharp on the outside,the interior is pretty rough.Also a part seems to be missing under the front hood on the passengers side.A new turbo was installed just before storage. 42.5K miles.
Today , I sent a written offer of $8000.
Does this sound like a resonable price for a non running car???
I dont know if I'm investing in a divorce or not.
If the offer is accepted, I will have 10,000 questions.

Eight large is probably fair. As I said, it sounds like a project. Seems like I recall Jim 85TE having a friend with a clean 88 for sale not too long ago. Don't remember the price, but the difference between ten and whatever he wanted could easily get sucked up by a project.

NADA low Retail is $13,200, so I have quite a bit of room to spend money before it becomes a losing proposition. If I can get it running easily, I am way ahead . I guess we'll see. By the way, I've got it BAD. I cant get this car out of my head!

Good luck if you get it. If not, don't get married to the idea of saving money by buying a fixer-upper. Most of the stories I've read were people who wished they had spent more on a sorted car. $6,000 can go quick when fixing an Esprit.

That is true, unless of course you are very good and familiar with that particular Esprit model.

FWIW, that's exactly the symptom (run a few seconds, then quit) you get if you have a huge air leak between the airbox and the turbo from the 16 year old hose rotting away. On cold start, the bosch cars spritz in a touch of fuel, then the air meter takes charge. The spritz starts the car but the hole in the hose bypasses the air meter.

Of course, it could probably be about a million other things too.
