Engine spec (confused)

I have an 87 Turbo HCI. Most of the cars I have seen in the photos have carbs. My plate says the car was built in October 86, but it has fuel injection, a chargecooler (lotus) has been added at sometime. I am in Canada. Did the American cars have fuel injection earlier than Europe or is mine an early injected car

Yes it had the Bocsh K jetronic. The carb versions were for Non USA cars. I think it had to do with EPA emission rules. I think 85 was the last year for carbs in the USA.

Calvin's right! The last carb'd US Spec cars were the '85 MY. After that, Bosche K-jetronic electromechanical fuel injection was used to meet emissions requirements for the '86-'88 model years. The GM Eng. Mgmt. System was introduced in '89 and upgraded in '89.5 with the introduction of the SE model. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE
