I guess that eliminates the Giugiaro from using it. Anyone have one for sale that will fit the G-type?
HI,
The >'85 'G', and some of the Special Commemerative models cars had removal roof panels, but there was never a glass roof option. I should think this would be prohibitively hot anyway. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE
Is it the saratoga plexi or the one made out of glass.
The double lip seal of a Saratoga means you will not have to buy and install a new rubber gasket like the ones made out of glass.
Also Jay Ataka in California a sometimes Lotus parts seller had a smoked sun roof for a G car only roof as it is different for S body cars but wanted a mint for it. He tried to sell it on ebay for a long time with no takers. He wanted almost 1K USD for it but lower the price. Maybe he still has it unless he sold it off auction as G cars with removeable roof are less in numbers and out of the ones that were out there with the lift roof owners did not want spend 1K.

I almost ordered (still considering) a glass roof w/all necessary hardware for my G-type from RD Enterprises for $800.. They have alot of good stuff at good prices. Check at www.rdent.com
I know Ray at RD and order a lot from him.
The only reason I order more from Ray is he is faster at shipping.
The glass roofs are just a flat piece of glass, at least the ones I saw. The glass is a lot thinner that the GRP roof that compresses the gasket a lot more than the glass over a period of time. Then when switching to the glass roof a lot of people experience water leaks from a seal that is not tight enough so in many cases the rubber gasket must be replaced to correct this problem.
The Saratoga Plexi roof that was standard for the SE and earlier was a piece of smoked plexi that is mounted on a frame. This frame had a moulded piece that sat in the roof gutter with it's own rubber seal so it form what I refer to as a double seal. One against the plexi and another in the gutter. From the outside it just looks like a smoked flush panel but I have not had to replace my seal as many S4 and later cars that were fitted with just the glass roof.
The Plexi roofs are rare in that they are no longer made by Saratoga which used to supply T tops and sunroofs for many GM cars like the Corvette, Firebird, Camaro and a few others. I called Saratoge for a person who wanted one and they told me it was long since discontinued. I suppose it is a legacy from when GM owned Lotus in the 80's-90's.
