ANY way to mate ford 4,6 mod motor in an esprit??
Discussion
Just wondering because I have access to both parties needed to make this happen......a 98 mustang cobra and a 91 elise that isnt running.
Could the swap be done?
The motor is light (aluminum block and heads) and makes 305hp (I also have an ATI procharger for it...makes 530hp) and with power like that in the chassis of the lotus....it would be awesome. Best of the best, when it breaks I'll actually know how to fix it.
I guess the biggest prob would be finding a compatible transaxle?

As the owner of a '65 fastback mustang, and future esprit owner, hear me when i say...
...NO WAY!
Its just not right. I'd be PISSED if i saw a chevy motor in a ford, wouldnt you? How is this any different?
You'd be committing a major crime if you did it, and in my opinion, should be sentenced to some sort of hard labor should you do it...

There are a couple of mod motored GT40s over on www.gt40s.com. Very tight fit, but the GT40 has less space than the Esprit.
On these installs there has been one mated to a Renault box, since some folks in the UK use the Renault box for their GT40s, and one mated to a Getrag/Audi box.
You can probably find them via searching. However, if I was going to go for such a bastard swap I'd use the good old pushrod SB Ford. Easily can best 550hp and isn't as heavy nor large as the mod motors. An all aluminum SB Ford stroker at around 408-427 inches will trump the mod motor easily.
Sorry, I missed the part about the Elise - don't know much about size and space.

Didn't think there was a Elise from that year either, but just figured I'd let it go since I don't know much about Elises! If it is an Esprit it is swappable, but with some serious work and I think I'd rather keep my Esprit powered by Lotus. Some folks would say "the weight on the V8 is too much" but they would be wrong - an all aluminum SB Ford is quite light and can make a large amount of hp/torque.
