Hi all~
I take out the carburators today on my 87 Turbo Esprit HC. I found one of the Manifold to Carb Spacer has a crack in it at the groove. The crack grow from the edge of the groove passing by the side of the center funnel and to another groove edge. If looking at it from the top, it cracks from 3 o'clock direction to 7 o'clock.
Do I must replace it? Or can I repair it instead? There is no part dealer at where I live and I don't really want to wait for another 2 weeks for another shipment.
Thanks.

Zak,

The obvious concern is that the crack will allow air to pass into the cylinder creating a lean condition which the car cannot compensate for.

Using a metal (Aluminum) epoxy (one that has a large metal content %) would most likely suffice to repair it. If the crack goes all the way through, I would affect a separate repair from each side, this way, you will be making two seals with which to insure that you restrict air from entering the system.

Also, be sure to replace the rubber doughnuts with fresh ones and not to draw the carbs up too tight when reinstalling as I suspect this is what caused the spacer to crack in the first place. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Yes Jim, you are right. The spacer was installed wrong previously. It was tight right against both the intake manifold and the carb. They did it so tight that 3 of the rubber springs were sheared. I am going to put in all new rubbers for the reinstallation.

I will bring the spacer to local machine shops and see what they can do. Thanks.
