Hey, just wondering.. does anyone know where one could find a good fitting sunroof conversion (for those of us that dont have the nice OE glass panel). The PO had fitted a "custom van" style sunroof on my 83 and it doesnt quite do it for me. I would prefer a more square cornered, flush fitting one, opening or non. I suppose if it is possible to find an OE one at a fair proce, I would consider that for sure.
Appreciate the help..Have a good weekend..Jan 83TE

Hi,
My previous Esprit ('83) had an aftermarket sunroof too. I looked into the costs a lot and found that matting the hole back to GRP was not cheap - but a lot cheaper than trying to convert to the factory type glass roof.
I lived with it. Mainly as my luck is such that if i spent £,£££'s on a cosmetic item like that, then something oily and expensive would break the next day for sure.

Hi, my local Lotus specialist PNM Engineering had a crash damaged Giuiaro Esprit in once. He had to replace the roof section. Asked Lotus for a new roof section but they had lost the mould and said that it wasn't viable to make a new. Pnm had a new mould made for the roof section with the aperture for a sunroof I think. Why don't you ask him about costs for making one up for you, Iam sure it won't cost much. His number is +44 151 630 6101, ask for Pete.

Cheers,

Dave Walters
ps. I think he has since supplied Lotus direct with a new roof section.

Thanks for the input. I am not particularly fussy about actually filling it in.. I kinda like the open feel the glass roof gives to the cockpit. My car is black so a nice "limo black" glass roof would vanish in the color. The roof installed by the PO looks "add on". What I plan is to improve the fit and finish so it looks like it could have been a factory option. I have been around measuring the roofs of newer cars to see if there is a good "fit". If I remember my notes, the curve needs to be about 1/2" in 16" across and 1/4" in 12 lengthwise. I have come close.. just thought maybe one of you has already figured it out.

Ill check pnm and rdent..thx

hmmmmm.. how the hell could Lotus "loose" a mold like that... simply amazing.
