a few people here and in other forums were asking me for info and pics on some of the things i did to my Esprit, so instead of emailing everything, i threw together a quick website.
it is not much yet, but if anyone's interested:

The spring on the wastegate is an interesting idea and not one I had seen before. What is the spring from as I may try it myself out of interest.

Would like to see a link to www.lotusespritworld.com on the front page (May be even my own site )

Isn't the wastegate arm adjustable? You shouldn't need a spring. You can just adjust the wastegate rod.

I have considered that but perhaps incorrectly assumed that if the rod was too long it would open early and if too short would move the diaphragm out and may cause the gate not to open fully when needed.

I've never taken to exhaust off to look and connect a hand pump to find out so could be completely wrong.

the arm is adjustable, but that just sets its initial position (i.e. you could have the valve slightly open by adjusting the arm, even when the solenoid that actuates it is off). obviously, you want the valve to be fully closed and under some tension when the solenoid is off, else boost will leak thru there all the time. the springs are a way of delaying the wastegate opening. for example, the waste gate is set to open between .5-.6 bar (? many of the links on my homepage can tell you the factory design settings). it uses the pressure in the intake plenum that the turbo generates to open the wastegate valve. the actuator has a diaphragm that the pressurized air pushes against. if the diaphragm has an area of 2 sq. in. and there is 7.5 psi pushing on it, the force opening the wastegate is 2 x 7.5 = 15 pounds. put a spring with a constant of 5 lbs of force for every inch it stretches working to keep the waste gate closed and you get a waste gate that will open later (at say 20 lbs of force or 8.5 bar) or it will open slower.

You could have had an owners page on www.lotusespritworld.com and left all the Donkey work to me!
