So after finally getting the radiator recored, it's time to address the lumpy idle and lousy running of the engine that's been sitting for waaaaaaaay too long. As it turns out the previous owner hadn't changed the oil in FOUR YEARS, and the old fuel has also corroded the injectors. My mechanic noticed that they were VW injectors, but the replacements he got were too long, and from his sources he found that the Lotus injectors had been made especially for the Esprit. All of this sounds very expensive to me right now... anybody have any similar problems/solutions?

thanks again,
Dr. J

If it has the Bosch system, I have a complete system I pulled off my 88 that I was just getting ready to put on eBay. Email me if you would like to discuss.

Thanks,

Cool, thanks for the offer! Fortunately my mechanic found the problem.... OLD GAS. Turns out the previous owner not only hadn't changed the oil since 2000, but that was probably the last time a fresh tank of fuel was put in, too. After a thorough draining of the tanks, a bunch of additives and injector cleaners, and a lot of good ol' freeway driving, the car is running MUCH better. In fact, I just passed emissions and got the tabs! My mechanic's advice: drive the car at least once a week to keep things clean.

Just ONCE?
