Well, once again my calendar has filled up with business travel, so I'll be out of the country for almost 4 weeks with LOG in the middle of it. Also, the Esprit has not yet been repaired/upgraded due to recent and frequent travel.. ugh.
The good news is that I have a large collection of Lotus parts and special tools in stock so October should prove an interesting month. I have all of the special tools for V8 cambelt servicing and a set of belts, tensioners and new intake plenum gaskets. I also have a decent set of gearbox tools and all of the internals for a rebuild along with the Quaife ATB Diff. The Hyper-Flow Stainless Metal Cats are also in... very nice and weigh ~6.5 lbs each. And a full clutch setup with new hydraulics.
Soon....

How do you find the metal cats? Any difference in spool up? How much did you pay for them and where from?
How much lighter is that than a stock v8 cat?
Did you make up new cat pipes or cut the existing pipes to fit your new cats?
lots of q's i know, sorry![]()
Thanks in advance.

Hi Rob,
I've not yet installed the new cats, but according to HyperFlow (they make high-performance stuff for Ferraris, etc.) they are 50% higher flow than original and are metal based cats as opposed to ceramic. They are also a single cat element with O2 sensors pre/post and are much smaller in diameter then the OEM units.
Ben Schwitz did the work with Hyperflow to get new cats for the V8... they're not cheap at $2K USD for the pair but the metalwork has a lifetime warranty and the metal cat elements have a 36K miles warranty. Good news is you should be able to replace the elements and keep the metalwork. Ben's email address is: Ben Schwitz <bschwitz@sbcglobal.net>
Ben and Hyperflow are also working on a replacement stainless muffler as well as they have found the Tubi and others to have as much or in some cases more backpressure than the OEM unit. I'm on the list for one of these already. Hope this helps...

Kevin,
Sorry to hear you're not going to make it.
Keep me posted on when you get into the tranny as Dan and I would still like to come down and have a look.
Jim
Hi Jim,
As of right now, my schedule has me travelling from the end of August thru the 25th of September, so I am planning to yank the radiator before I leave and send it to Griffin for a custom replacement as it takes 3 weeks. Once the front end of the car is done I'll be yanking the gearbox early October and rebuilding it... pretty much everything I need is in so it should be fun. I'll drop you an email beforehand.
Regards, KM
