Hey Guys,

As there seems to be renewed interest in replacing the OEM steering wheel with the much nicer Raid airbag wheels I am curious to see if there is enough interest to organize another group buy.

I have no adapter kits left at this time but can probably have some more made if the interest is there. I need to have a minimum of 10 commitments in order to have the adapters machined.

I am checking now to confirm if the previous pricing on all the parts involved is still available. The total price that we got before for the wheel/adapter combo was from $675 to $775 depending on your wheel choice which included shipping to your door. That's about $500 cheaper than you can get them anywhere else.

You can see the wheel choices here: www.tmtuning.com
click on "interiors" then "wheels". Note that the adapter is made to work only with the airbag wheels although a couple of guys did modify them to work with the non airbag wheels.

The install procedure is here: www.lotusenthusiasts.org/Downloads/FAQ/WheelInstall/Default.asp

Please contact me off list and let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,
Jim Knowles

I never really thanked you for putting together the first group buy. The new wheel transforms the interior. No more kit-car, gm parts bin look. I really appreciate the effort.

Dirk,

Your more than welcome. I wanted one too so I was glad to do it.

And also thanks to KFM for initially making the contacts that made it possible.

Good news! There are several of you who want to proceed with getting a new wheel so the Lotus Group Buy is on.

I am placing the order to have the adapters made and it will take 4-6 weeks to get them.

If you want to participate please send me a confirmation by email off list and I will add your name to the list and send you the ordering info for the wheels and how to proceed.

The pricing is as per the following email from Katja at TM Tuning:

"The prices for the steering wheels are still the same, though I have to charge a 2 percent handling fee this time. (the normal handling fee is 2.5 percent) Thank you for your understanding.

Here are the updated shipping prices, based on the current currency conversion:

standard air shipping - USD $ 39.00
air plus shipping - USD $ 59.00

standard air shipping features only partial insurance, full insurance can be purchased for USD $ 7.50. Air Plus shipments are fully insured.

And here the list of the steering wheels again:
daytona 548.00 USD
freeway silver trim 450.00 USD
freeway all black leather 465.00 USD
freeway woodgrain 489.00 USD

Of course the group buy members may choose any other raid steering wheel (prices upon request).

Thank you,
Katja "

The adapter/installation kit will be shipped to you directly from me and the cost is $180 including shipping anywhere in the US.

The adapters will be in limited supply so get your orders in asap.

Cheers,

Jim,

I am assuming only the Daytona model has horn buttons?

Rich,

They all have horn buttons but the others are concealed under the leather with an embossed type circle over them.

Jim,

Thanks I see it now. Do you know what the size of the original GM wheel is?

Don't remember exactly but I know the Raid Daytona and Freeway wheels are about an inch smaller in diameter if that helps.

I measured mine yesterday. Looked to be about 15 inches. I measured the wheel on my roomate's Ferrari 348 and it was about 14.3. Which works out to 365 mm, and is about the largest standard size for performance steering wheels.

The original Lotus airbag wheel (aka GM pars bin relic) is 380mm which is 14.96 inches. The Raid Freeway wheel I bought is a 340mm wheel and fits perfect. The smaller diameter allows easy ingress/egress over the stock wheel and provides more feedback from the steering. Overall a very noticeable improvement.
