my 90se has a dead spot in power band at 3k rpm. I did several mods at once before driving it, including new exhaust (removing EBPV)and the Whittaker ECM upgrade from Sanj that is supposed to help this. It was much more noticable after these mods than before (Im sure the EBPV was not opening prior to mods due to a totally collapsed vac hose)
is this just an esprit thing? anyone else experience same thing? It acts almost like a rev limiter at 3k and takes all the fun out of driving it! doesnt matter if accelerating hard or just puttering up thru the gears.
any feedback appreciated
thanks

They all do that. Reset the computer by disconnected the battery for a few minutes, or use free scan to do it. You will see a big change. It seems to come back after using the a/c. I havn't been able to find a soultion, but do a search on this forum for 3k stumble and you will see many discussions about it. Mine did get less noticable when I installed the high torque chip, but it is still there.

I'm suprised to hear you're still having the problem with the Whittaker chip installed. I occaisionally feel a slight flat spot now vs. feeling like the car shut off for an instant pre-chip. This on a nearly stock (cam gears changed) S4s.

Hi,
The Whittaker chip is a very good one and will actually (nearly) eliminate this problem. But this will only happen if your wastegate actuator is adjusted properly to 0.65-0.75 bar. If it is slightly misadjusted you will still experience this problem.

My advise: Reset your ECU AND adjust your wastegate rod properly to spec. 0.65 bar (a little bit more = 0.7-0.75 bar will be even better !)

Cheers
