Buzzing Vacuum pumps
Discussion
Had the unfortunate event of my vacuum pump playing up. Has anyone got their old pump that they've replaced to possibly send me? Iam trying to make one decent one from two broken ones.
I've just had my rear calipers replaced yesterday and hadn't anticipate anything else going so soon.
I may be able to recon them and provide a service.
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave Walters

Hey Dave,
There are several web pages dedicated to replacing the vacuum pump with an off-the-shelf item available on this side of the pond. Should be easy to get on your side too. New cost is in the $100 range. Part numbers are on my web page:

Tim has quite a write up.

Thanks for the link. Iam actually after the OEM unit but really after someone's old unit. I can source medical vacuum pumps no problem but Iam curious to these GM units and want to get to the bottom of why they fail so easily.
Any other takers? Please I need old units from people.

Are those NAPA pumps definetly the electrical replacement as I had previously been told about replacement pumps and assured it was the one I wanted only to find they where replacements for the mechanical pumps that don't exist on the later cars that have power steering.
Cost me £ in shipping and restocking fees to find that mistake out.
Worth making a note on your site which is mechanical or electical to save someone the mistake or exactly which model they are known to fit ?

If you decide to go with a new one, I bought a replacement last December from www.gmpartsdirect.com . The part number for the electrical vacuum pump is GM 10098493 ($145.90). It was a direct replacement, and works like a champ, although it's as noisy as the old one was.

I have fixed my vacuum pump now and it's works fine. Derrick are you still missing one on yours. Maybe able to make one good one out of two broken ones. I've managed to completely strip them down and replace the broken parts. I have sucessfully fixed two since yesterday!
